มาก (막) มีความหมายทั้งภาษาไทยและเกาหลี ในภาษาเกาหลี สามารถใช้ได้ในหลากหลายความหมายตามบริบทของคำนั้น อาจหมายถึง ชั่วคราว, ชั่วขณะหนึ่ง และยังใช้แทนคำว่า ‘แค่ ‘ หรือ ‘ตอนนี้’ได้อีกด้วย นอกจากนี้ มาก (막) ยังเป็นคำย่อของ ‘마구 마구’ ซึ่งมีความหมายว่า ‘รุนแรง’ , ‘อะไรก็ได้’ และ ‘ทุกอย่าง’ จึงเป็นคำที่สามารถแสดงถึงพลังแห่งอุดมการณ์ ด้วยรากความหมายของคำว่ามาก (막) ในภาษาเกาหลีนี้จึงมีศักยภาพในการแสดงถึง ‘การก้าวไปข้างหน้าด้วยความกล้าหาญและศรัทธาอย่างฉับพลันทันที’
’มาก’ ก็มีความหมายในภาษาไทยเช่นกัน ในภาษาไทยใช้คำว่ามากเป็นคำกริยาวิเศษณ์ต่อท้ายเพื่อเพิ่มน้ำหนักและความเข้มข้นของความหมายให้เพิ่มมากขึ้น คำว่ามากยังหมายถึงความหลากหลายอีกด้วย เมื่อคำว่ามากถูกนำมาใช้ซ้ำ จึงเป็นการทวีคูณความหมายให้ทะลุขีดจำกัดไปอีกขั้น
นิทรรศการ มากมาก 막막 เป็นการรวมตัวกันของศิลปินที่มีเอกลักษณ์อย่างโดดเด่นเฉพาะตัว ทั้งฝั่งเกาหลี ปาร์ค ชอล โฮ, ซอน มีจอง และศิลปินไทย อิ่มหทัย ศุวัฒนศิลป์ ชุมพล คำวรรณะ PADDY ประสาท นิรันดร์ประเสิรฐ ไพโรจน์ พิเชฐเมธากุล สุดาภรณ์ เตจา TETAT และ วสันต์ สิทธิเขตต์ ด้วยความหมายในเชิงนิรุกติศาสตร์ของคำว่ามาก จึงเกิดขึ้นเป็นนิทรรศการแรกของ PlaceMak BKK เพื่อแสดงถึงความหลากหลายทางศิลปะ ที่ไร้ขีดจำกัดในพื้นที่แห่งนี้

Mak (มาก, 막) can be defined in Thai and Korean. In Korean, they use the word “Mak” (막) for various definition by the various context. “Mak” (막) in Korean defines temporary moment and also represent the word ‘just’ or ‘now’.
Besides the definition of temporary moment, “Mak” (막) is also the abbreviation of ‘마구 마구’ which means ‘violence’, ‘what ever’ and ‘ everything’. Therefore, “Mak” (막) is the word which can demonstrate power of ideology. Because of the base of “Mak” (막) in Korean, “Mak” (막) has the potential to represent ‘The immediate progress with courage and faith’.
Meanwhile, “Mak” (มาก) in Thai is used as an adjective or adverb to increase the intensity of the sentence. “Mak” (มาก) also defines ‘variations’. When using “Mak” (มาก) repeatedly, the meaning of the sentence is twofold break through the limitation.
Mak Mak (มากมาก 막막) exhibition is a collaboration of outstanding unique artists from South Korea Park Chulho, Son Mijungand Thailand Chumpol Kamwanna, Imhathai Suwatthanasilp, Paddy, Pairoj Pichetmetakul, Prasart Nirundornprasert, Sudaporn Teja, TETAT and honorary guest artist Vasan Sithhiket. Because of the meaning behind linguistics of “Mak”, this word is selected as the concept of first exhibition of Placemak Bkk to represent the unlimited variations of art in this place.
